Gratitude

Did you say the words “Thank you” today?

We live in a non-stop world where many take for granted what they have, whether it be food, shelter or money.  A world of entitlement where I assume that I will get that job or that reward just because I get my work done every day and do not cause any trouble for my boss.

So what happens when you did not get that promotion, raise or the thing you coveted most?

When you look back in hindsight, can you point to any specific times where you thanked your co-workers for their help with a project?  Was there a time that you cheerfully accepted an assignment from your boss, knowing that it was going to involve a ton of time, time you did not have?  If I had to guess, you took all the credit when the project was recognized and grumbled about the extra assignment.

Now think about a time when you received accolades or a dream opportunity.  In the days, months or years leading up to getting the news, what were you doing?  How did you feel? Were you feeling positive?

Chances are, you were engaging in activities that directly, or indirectly, recognized the contributions of others.  You regularly thanked your coworkers for their hard work.  You routinely thanked a higher source, whether it be God or the Universe, for granting you a talent or perhaps just the simple thank you for another day to live this beautiful thing called life.
On the worst of days, it is difficult to find the good.  Yet, taking the time to remember one good thing that happened on that worst of days, causes an immediate shift in your mind.  Keep doing this every day and notice if anything happens.
